The Public Health Association of Australia in partnership with Sexual Health and Family Planning Australia invite you to participate in the first Australian conference to bring together practitioners, policy makers, scholars, educators and others enthusiastic about improving the sexual and reproductive health of all Australians.
The conference will be an excellent opportunity to hear the most recent national and international research evidence and practitioner wisdom and to make your own contribution to implementation ideas foreshadowed in the new National Women’s and Men’s Health policies.
Conference organisers will circulate a draft Melbourne Declaration with recommendations for State, Territory and Federal governments on priorities for policy and program implementation in sexual and reproductive health. Those submitting abstracts are therefore recommended to situate their work in a human rights framework and address the socio-economic determinants of sexual and reproductive health where possible.
We encourage those submitting abstracts to consider adding a recommendation for consideration in the Declaration.
The Conference is relevant to:
- sexual and reproductive health, community health, women’s and men’s health practitioners and scholars
- other public health practitioners
- nurses, allied health professionals and welfare workers
- educators and teachers
- women’s and men’s health consumer advocates.
Keynote Speakers will include:
- Prof. Dr. Ine Vanwesenbeeck, presently Manager of International Research at Rutgers WPF, Dutch centre of expertise on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and affiliated Professor of Sexual Development, Diversity and Health at Utrecht University
- Simon Blake OBE, Chief Executive for Brook, the UK’s largest young people’s sexual health charity.

- Preventing and reducing unwanted and unintended pregnancies
- Men’s role in their own and their partners’ sexual and reproductive health
- Sexual and reproductive health education and promotion and respectful relationships
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ sexual and reproductive health
- Social determinants of good sexual and reproductive health
- Sexual and reproductive health workforce issues
- Sexuality and ageing.
